Most people don’t think about civil engineering—until something goes wrong. The ICE Awards shine a light on the unsung heroes behind the UK’s biggest infrastructure projects. Wind & Foster was brought in to capture their achievements and turn complex engineering into a compelling, human story.
Stories that matter
This wasn’t just an awards film. It was a chance to spotlight the people making infrastructure work—engineers, project leads, and rising stars. With over 100 contributors, including judges, nominees and industry leaders, we brought excitement to the forefront.
Filming the unseen
Conducting interviews on live sites was a challenge—but also an opportunity. We created a seamless production, capturing engineers from across the South West. From major contractors to clients, every story was carefully crafted to communicate passion, technical excellence, and the real-world impact of these projects.
A platform for change
The final documentary wasn’t just an awards film—it became a media resource for ICE, used across recruitment, outreach, and industry engagement. By blending powerful storytelling with strategic insight, Wind & Foster helped bring civil engineering into the spotlight—where it belongs.
The Owl and the Pussycat
The amount of PPE, roadsides, motorways, roundabouts and overall formality of site visits means over the years we’ve introduced some light creativity. It helps. Interviewees relax, they are more forthcoming and generally become more honest.

Women make up just 16% of UK engineers—the lowest in Europe. To change perceptions, we featured candid conversations on inclusion, opportunity, and the future of civil engineering. A first step in reshaping a culture.
